Your privacy in Told
Effective September 8, 2026. Told: Bible Stories for Adults is provided by Janus Works LLC. Contact us at contact@janusworks.dev.
Stories and your device
You can read and listen to seven starter stories and the daily story without a subscription. Browsing, favorites, history, progress, reminders, and account sync are free. Three AI study requests and three voice recordings are included each day; allowances reset at midnight UTC. Premium adds the full library, offline downloads, and up to 100 daily study requests and voice recordings. Favorites, listening progress, bookmarks, bookmark notes, downloaded audio, and reminder preferences are stored on your device. Public artwork, narration, and Scripture content are delivered through Google infrastructure, which processes ordinary connection information such as IP addresses.
Optional account sign-in
Google sign-in or Sign in with Apple provides your name, email address, and account identifier through Firebase Authentication. Existing email accounts can also sign in with a password processed by Firebase Authentication. We use these to maintain your account and synchronize supported favorites, completed stories, history, and saved passage identifiers. Bookmark notes stay on your device. AI tools use an anonymous Firebase session when you have not signed in. We do not use that anonymous session to synchronize your profile. Inactive guest identities are removed after 30 days.
Questions, situations, and voice recordings
When you use AI study tools, your question, relevant conversation context, or situation is sent through our backend to OpenAI for moderation and response generation or passage matching. If you choose the microphone, Told requests microphone permission and sends the recording to OpenAI for transcription. Recording starts only when you choose it. We do not store recordings in our backend database.
Signed-in chat messages and answers are retained for up to 30 days, with deletion processed by the database expiration service. Guest chat content is not stored in our database. Passage-finder situations and explanation requests are not added to account state, analytics, or application logs. Provider processing and retention are described in OpenAI's API data policy. Avoid including information you do not want processed by these services.
Support and AI reports
Contact forms store the name, email, and message you supply. In-app feedback and reports store the selected topic, reported response or message, application version, and a ticket identifier. Signed-in submissions may be associated with your account. AI reporting shows the response that will be sent and excludes your question and recording. Tickets are retained for up to 180 days, subject to database expiration processing. We use them to respond, investigate problems, and review reported content.
Diagnostics and analytics
Firebase Analytics records app interactions, sessions, and general device/app information to help us understand reliability and use. Signed-in analytics may include your Firebase account identifier. Firebase Crashlytics processes crash reports, diagnostic stack traces, device/app information, and normalized screen names. We exclude questions, chat text, recordings, bookmark notes, and email addresses from custom analytics and crash context. Advertising-ID collection and ad-personalization defaults are disabled. Told does not serve ads or sell your personal data.
Reminders, security, and subscriptions
Local reminders use the notification permission you control. If a signed-in user enables reminders, we register a device notification token for delivery of app notifications. Tokens expire after 30 days without refresh and are removed when reminders are disabled or you sign out. Firebase App Check uses device/app attestation to help detect abuse. Rate-limit records contain hashed identifiers and expire after their counting windows. Google Play or Apple processes subscription payments, depending on your device. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous app account identifier and purchase records to manage access, offers, and restoration. Told does not receive payment-card details. Monthly and annual plans renew automatically unless cancelled in the store where you subscribed; trial availability depends on eligibility. Webhook receipts expire after 400 days. You can manage or cancel subscriptions from Settings in Told or your Google Play or App Store account.
Your choices and deletion
Use Settings to delete your signed-in Told account and associated data, or reset local data as a guest. Account deletion removes your Firebase account, synced data, stored conversations, push tokens, referral records, and linked support records from our systems. You can also request deletion outside the app. We verify ownership before acting on an email request. Deleting Told does not cancel a subscription; manage it separately through your Google Play or App Store account.
You may disable microphone or notification access in your device settings. Uninstalling the app removes its local app data. Service providers may retain limited security, transaction, or legally required records under their own policies. Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion, including assistance with provider-held data.
Audience and service providers
Told is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly seek children's personal information. Google/Firebase, OpenAI, and RevenueCat process data to deliver the services described here. Processing may occur outside your country. We use encrypted HTTPS connections and restrict access to backend data. This policy will be updated when our practices change.
